How it works

How ordering a metal print works

From your phone to your wall in four steps. Here's what happens at each one, and what you can expect from us.

  1. UploadChoose a size and finish, then add your photo. The site checks it right away and warns you if it's too small for the size you picked.
  2. Pay securelyCheckout is handled by Stripe. You get an emailed receipt immediately. We never see your card number.
  3. File checkTrevor looks at every photo before printing. If cropping, color or sharpness looks off, he emails you before anything is printed.
  4. Print & shipYour photo is dye-sublimated onto aluminum, inspected, packed and shipped with tracking, or set aside for pickup.

What dye-sublimation is

The photo is first printed in special inks on transfer paper. That paper is laid face-down on a coated aluminum panel and pressed with heat. The heat turns the ink into a gas that soaks into the panel's coating, and when it cools the image is part of the surface.

Because there's no layer of ink sitting on top, the surface can be wiped clean and isn't easily scratched in normal use.

About the file check

Most orders go straight through. When something needs a decision, such as a face too close to the edge for the crop, or a photo that's darker than it looked on your phone, Trevor emails a quick note or proof. Production starts when you reply. [[TBD: does production start automatically if there's no reply within 48 hours?]]

Timing

Production takes [[TBD business days]] after your file is approved. Transit time depends on where you are; see shipping.

Custom jobs work a little differently

Custom sizes, bulk orders, text on photos and all fabrication start with a quote request. Trevor replies with a price and a secure one-time payment link from Stripe. Once it's paid, you get a receipt and the job goes into production.
